They illustrate the talent and expertise of our team of skilled craftsmen at Albarius Limited and the diversity of works which we regularly undertake. - »Stowe HouseOne of Britain's finest 18th Century houses
- Stowe House is a major work of architecture set in magnificent landscaped gardens. It was built in the 1680's and renovated throughout the 18th Century by some of the best architects of the period.
- The Stowe House Preservation Trust was established in 1997 to restore one of Britains finest 18th Century houses and preserve it for the benefit of the nation. No major restoration or renovation work had been carried out at Stowe since the 1860's.
- Customer Requirements:
- Reinstating of a self coloured hydraulic lime render to the North Elevation of Stowe House required to be maintenance free for 80 years.
- Steps taken to meet the requirements:
- Profiles of all decorative mouldings were taken.
- Test panels to ensure exact match of render to original.
- Application of 3 coat hydraulic lime render.
- Reinstatement of all run in situ mouldings.

- »The Corinthian Arch, Stowe Gardens18th Century Monument
- Situated within the 700 acres of spectacular historic parkland, the Corinthian Arch stands at the top of the Grand Avenue en-route to the South Front entrance to Stowe House.
- The monument was designed by Thomas Pitt in the 18th Century as a symbol of wealth and influence. It is constructed of Helmdon and Windrush stone and stands sixty feet high and wide with a four storey house built into each side.
- Customer Requirements:
- Run in situ decorative external cornice in hydraulic lime mortar and Run in situ and free hand coffered arch soffit in putty lime mortar.
- Steps taken to meet the requirements:
- Profiles of original cornice and moulds of decorative elements taken.
- Application of 3 coat hydraulic lime to run in situ cornice.
- Casting and fixing of decorative elements.
- Application of putty lime mortar to coffered panels and ribs to the arch soffit.

- »Victorian Manor HouseRestoration project for a private client
- A mock Tudor Victorian manor house in need of full restoration and situated in Buckinghamshire. We were commissioned by the client to fully reinstate four decorative lime plaster ceilings and cornices.
- Customer requirements:
- Lath and lime putty mortar ceilings and Run in situ lime putty cornice with decorative mouldings.
- Steps taken to meet the requirements:
- Obtain fragments of original cornice, remove paint build up and take profiles.
- Obtain all decorative elements of cornice, remove paint build up and produce moulds for reproduction.
- Fix laths to ceilings and cornice.
- Application of three coat internal putty lime mortar to ceilings.
- Run in situ cornices in putty lime mortar.
- Cast and fix all decorative elements to cornice.
- Reproduction of two decorative ceiling centres and fix.
- »Knebworth HouseTudor Manor House
- Knebworth House has been the country seat of the Lytton family since 1490. Originally a red-brick Tudor manor house, it was transformed in 1843 into the current gothic inspired building with turrets, griffins and gargoyles which remain to this day.
- Customer requirements:
- Replacement of self coloured hydraulic lime external render and Run in situ hydraulic lime cornices and mouldings.
- Steps taken to meet the requirements:
- Profile of original cornice and mouldings.
- Application of three coat hydraulic lime external render.
- Ashlar lines to replicate stone.
- Run in situ hydraulic lime cornices and mouldings.

- »Medieval CottageRestoration project for a private client
- Medieval cottage in Berkshire.
- Customer requirements:
- Replacement of external render panels and lime washing.
- Steps taken to meet the requirements:
- Oak riven laths to external timber framework.
- Application of three coat putty lime render.
- Application of coloured lime wash.
